Maybe not. If your chairs are full and every client finds you by word of mouth, a booking page may be all you need. A website earns its keep when you want new clients finding you on Google, a place that's clearly yours and a page that still works if you switch apps.
What does a booking app page do well?
A lot, honestly. Clients see your services, prices and open times and book in a few taps. Reminders cut no-shows. Some apps, like Booksy, also list you in a marketplace where people browse for a shop. For a lot of barbers that's the most useful thing on the internet.
What doesn't it do?
- It isn't yours. The page lives on the app's site, under their name and design. You rent it for as long as you use them.
- It's in a crowd. In a marketplace app, your page sits in the same app as every other shop in town.
- Switching apps resets it. Change from one app to another and the link you've printed on cards and posted everywhere goes dead.
- It says little about the shop. Who cuts there, what the place feels like, parking, walk-in policy and photos of the work. A booking page has room for a list of services.
What does your own site add?
Your name on your own domain. A page Google can show when someone searches "barbershop near me" or your street name. Your barbers, your photos and the answers to the questions you get every day. And a big Book button that sends people to the app you already use.
You keep the booking app. The site is the front door, and the app is the appointment book.
How much site does a shop need?
Not much. Four pages covers almost everyone: home, services and prices, the team and their work and a visit page (hours, address and parking). That's a Core site at $2,500 one time, plus about $10 to $12 a month to the hosting company. No monthly fee to me.
When should you skip it?
- You're booked solid weeks out
- You don't want more clients, or new ones come only from referrals
- You'd never update hours or photos on a site
If that's you, keep your Google Business Profile current and put your booking link on it. That's the best free move there is.
