How it works

A website project should not be mysterious. Here is the whole thing, start to finish, including what you will be asked to do.

Start to finish

  1. Step 1

    A conversation about your business

Thirty minutes, by phone or at your place. Not about websites. About what sells, what is a hassle, what people ask before they walk in and what you wish they knew. If you have an existing site, bring the three things that annoy you most about it.

  2. Step 2

    A fixed quote

Within a few days you get one number in writing, what it covers and what it does not. No hourly billing, no surprises. If the number does not work for you, you say so and nothing is owed.

  3. Step 3

    Design, with real pages

The first thing you see is the home page, working, on your phone. Not a drawing of it. You react to the real thing and the design moves from there. Most projects go through two or three rounds.

  4. Step 4

    Content

You provide the words and photos you already have: menus, prices, hours, the story of the place. Holston Studio writes and shapes the rest with you. Photos of the actual business are used, never stock. If you need photos, that gets arranged early.

  5. Step 5

    Build

Every page is built to the same budgets: fast on a phone, no jumping layouts, readable by Google, usable with a keyboard and a screen reader. These are checked with tools before launch and the numbers are shared with you.

  6. Step 6

    Launch and handoff

The site goes live on your domain. You get the accounts for the domain, the hosting and the editing system in your own name, written notes on how everything works and a walkthrough of making a change. From then on it is yours.

What every project includes

  • Design and build of every page
  • Phone-first, measured for speed before launch
  • Business details set up the way Google reads them, including your Google Business Profile
  • A contact form or booking link that actually works
  • An editing system for hours, prices, photos, events and text
  • Pre-made images in the right sizes so pages stay fast after you edit them
  • Your domain, hosting and editing accounts in your name
  • Written handoff notes and a walkthrough
  • 30 days of fixes after launch

What you do

  • Make time for the first conversation and two or three feedback rounds
  • Send the menus, prices, hours and photos you have
  • Approve the quote and the launch

Try it

Editing it afterwards

Changing hours, a price or a photo takes a couple of minutes on a phone. You log in, change the field and press publish. Changes go live within about ten minutes, or right away with one tap. Nothing breaks the layout because the layout is not something you can touch.

How long it takes

3 to 6 weeks

Most projects take three to six weeks from the first conversation to launch, depending mostly on how quickly content comes together.
